Counselling men effectively

22nd & 23rd July

Men tend to seek help when their partners are threatening to leave, their job is in jeopardy or their functioning is impaired due to depression or substance abuse.  Practitioners protest that men are difficult to engage and resist engagement in the process.  Male clients present unique challenges to

both male and female counsellors.

Research suggests that women request counselling on a five to one ratio over men.  Practitioners state that men are more difficult to engage and more likely to terminate treatment early.

This workshop will appeal to both the beginning as well as the experienced cousellor/therapist in finding ways of engaging men in counselling and therapy.

The workshop will be a mix of didactic presentation and exercises and clinical consultation.

Dr Wray Pasco has worked with men in a variety of settings: private practice with professional men, a federal prison, unkilled labours and men with addictions and/or issues with depression.  he has also worked with survivors of the Residential School System.  This workshop has been presented internationally.
