Tales and Transformations: our stories and theirs in family therapy22nd April, 2008Janine Roberts: Past President, American Family Therapy Academy; Professor Emerita, University of Massachusetts; Fulbright Scholar in Latin American; Author of "Tales and Transformations" and co-author of "Rituals for Our Times."Family stories provide access into the meaning each individual makes of both their unique experience and the social, cultural and historical context in which they live. Furthermore, since one cannot talk about “problems” without telling stories, they are central to therapy. Therapists, who work in a wide variety of settings, as has Dr. Roberts, will interactively learn new ways to look at voice transparency and self-disclosure, personal agency, position, listening and witnessing treatment. Furthermore, since one cannot talk about “problems” without telling stories, they are central to therapy. |
