Centre for Cross-Cultural Studies

Do you sometimes feel 'stuck' when working across culture?

The Centre for Cross-Cultural Studies at the Institute of Family Therapy was initially funded by the Lloyds TSB Foundation in partnership with the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, the Refugee Council and Nottingham University.

The Centre provides the following:

  • Agency Based Training on cross-cultural / refugee issues across the UK.
  • Observation / discussion of family therapy with ethnic minority families.
  • Supervision / consultation on cross- cultural issues to individuals and organisations.
  • Conferences and publications.

Upcoming Events

Book Club

We will meet approximately once every six weeks on a Thursday evening from 6.30 to 7.45 pm at the Institute of Family Therapy. Each time a group of participants will take responsibility for reading and presenting on an agreed upon text, which will be followed by a group discussion. The group will comprise between five to ten members. Please contact us to book a place.

Foundation Trust

The Centre is hosting early evening events, featuring distinguished presenters on relevant topics. The evenings will provide a forum for sharing information and interest and to keep abreast with developments in the field. You will be very welcome.

The Centre for Mediation and Conflict Resolution

Family Mediation is a way to sort things out together in safe and comfortable surroundings. With the help of impartial mediators you will be able to discuss arrangments for the children, your communication as parents, finances and any considerations there are for extended family.
