Training Courses

IFT offers courses at all levels of training in family and systemic psychotherapy.

All long term training is organised on a part time basis to allow individuals to participate with minimum disruption to their work setting. Each stage of the training may be followed as a self contained module. Depending on experience and professional qualifications it may not be necessary to enter at the introductory level, but equivalence of prior learning will have to be demonstrated. Trainees are required to apply for a place at each stage of the training.

The four year qualifying training programme is taken in three separate parts:

Successful completion of all 4 years leads to a qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy, and graduates can register with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.

FAQs Systemic Practice Courses

Social Work Post Qualifying Awards

The courses were accredited by the Greater London Post Qualifying Education and Training Consortium (social work) until its demise and replacement by the GSCC and Skills for Health. Birkbeck and IFT have made a successful application to Skills for Care and the courses leading to the post qualification award have been endorsed by them.

The courses are now being presented to the General Social Care Council for validation which forms the final part of the process.  We intend to have this in place shortly.

The Higher Specialist Level will be awarded to candidates who complete both the Graduate and Post Graduate Certificate in Systemic Practice, and the Advanced Level will be awarded to candidates who complete the MSc in Family & Systemic Psychotherapy.
