Assessed Practice in Conflict Resolution And Mediation Skills

 

This is a 30 hours skills based training in generic conflict resolution and mediation skills for those who wish to add a practice component to the Certificate. Those who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate from the Institute of Family Therapy and from Mediation UK.  Anyone wishing to undertake training in family mediation can do an additional 5 day module, provided by National Family Mediation (NFM) and approved as core training by the UK College of Family Mediators.



Entry Requirements

Participants must have successfully completed the GRADUATE certificate course or an equivalent.

 

The aim of the course is to provide participants with the skills needed to become a mediator.

 

The objectives of the course are to equip participants to:

  • Analyse the nature and sources of conflict in particular situations
  • Consider which theoretical frameworks are applicable to specific situations
  • Differentiate between the various conflict resolution processes (Le. negotiation, mediation, advocacy etc.)
  • Identify the different stages attributed to particular approaches to conflict resolution
  • Demonstrate a range of skills and knowledge that would help resolve the conflict situation
  • Recognise and describe issues of power, culture, gender, class, ability and ethnicity in conflict situations

 

The course will be assessed by observing role-plays and a short written test.


Fee

£816, a non returnable administration fee of £40 is payable to the Institute of Family Therapy on application. The course fee is due in full at registration and payable to BIRKBECK COLLEGE.

Children in Mind

The Institute is offering information sessions on the needs of children to parents in the process of separation or divorce.  Next sessions are on the 23rd or 24th September from 6.00 - 9.00pm, at a cost of £40.
